Wondering if a crown or bridge is right for you, or what each treatment is used for? Find out now.
Dental crowns are tooth-shaped dental prostheses. They are permanently attached to your tooth after it has been trimmed to remove damaged and decayed material. By covering your natural tooth up all the way to the gum line, a crown restores your natural bite and smile, and also prevents further complications.
Bridges use two dental crowns that are attached to healthy teeth, next to the gap formed by a missing tooth. Between the crowns, a false tooth is suspended to “bridge” the gap and restore your smile after tooth loss.
To begin the process of placing a bridge or crown, Dr. Naik will clean and numb your mouth, then trim your tooth or teeth to remove damaged enamel, and create a stable platform for your crown or bridge to attach to.
Dr. Naik will take impressions of your teeth using dental putty, and then send you home with a temporary crown or bridge to protect your newly-trimmed teeth. Then, this information will be sent to a dental lab, where your bridge or crown will be built.
In about 2-3 weeks, your permanent crown or bridge will arrive at our office. Dr. Naik will check the fit to make sure it’s perfect, then bond it into place permanently, restoring your smile.
You can treat a new dental crown just like you would treat a natural tooth. All you need to do is brush twice a day for two minutes, floss once a day, and see Dr. Sonal Naik for a checkup and teeth cleaning every six months.
